Reaching, by 2027, the entire world population with warning systems: this is the goal of the EW4All initiative launched by the Secretary General of the United Nations, to which CIMA Research Foundation contributes in different ways and on different fronts. Pillar 2 of EW4All is dedicated to detection, observation, monitoring, analysis and forecasting and aims at improving the quality of and access to meteo-hydrological data, as well as promoting their free and open sharing at global level. These data are indeed essential for the creation of early warning systems, which help save lives and reduce economic losses in the event of natural disasters.
CIMA Research Foundation also supports this particular objective in a concrete and active way through the ACRONET paradigm, an innovative model that allows the design and dissemination of low-cost environmental monitoring systems, in open hardware mode. This allows the construction and installation of environmental monitoring stations with modular components, easily accessible and modifiable by anyone: the main objective is to increase the number of points of detection of environmental variables at a global level, providing an essential contribution to the prevention of natural disasters and the management of climate crises.
CIMA Research Foundation has also set up and maintains the ACRONETWORK infrastructure, a state-of-the-art platform that provides all communications to and from the stations, and allows users to view the data collected in real time, and monitor the environmental processes they are intended for. In addition, data from the ACRONET stations are also always available on smartphones via the TELEGRAM© application.
In adherence to the principles dictated by the EW4All initiative, the data measured by all ACRONET stations are published free of charge and without restriction according to the ‘Italian Open Data Licenses’ (IODL V2.0) in order to facilitate the dissemination and re-use of public sector information.
With an ACRONET kit, you participate in the global environmental monitoring project, thus supporting the EW4All initiative.
The kit includes all the necessary components to set up a monitoring station, enabling users to actively contribute to the collection of data for the improvement of disaster prevention, both locally and globally.
In strict reference to the ‘Early Warnings For All’ initiative, and limited to the released configurations, CIMA Research Foundation offers a service of ‘purchase on behalf of the end user of the necessary elements’, and of ‘assembly and shipment of the ACRONET system assembly boxes’ .
